Magma Rocket Stove as a weld-it-yourself kit – 3 & 5 mm Corten steel

Developed by Ülfi, cut by 4A Métal, manufactured by you.

The Magma is a rocket stove developed by Ülfi. Compact, robust, and made from thick Corten steel, it was designed to offer efficient combustion, excellent stability, and very long durability.

This kit version uses the exact same model as the one developed by Ülfi. All parts are laser-cut in our workshop, ready to be assembled. It's up to you to do the tacking, welding, and finishing.

Why choose the kit version?

This kit is for metallurgy enthusiasts, welders, and professionals who want to build their own rocket stove while benefiting from a proven design. You get the same steel, the same parts, and the same design as the assembled version. It's a way to enjoy a true Ülfi product while taking pleasure in making it yourself.

Who is this kit for?

  • Amateur welders looking for a real project.
  • Metalworkers and artisans.
  • Training centers and welding schools.
  • Enthusiasts of outdoor cooking and metal fabrication.

Assemblies designed for welding

The Magma is not just a simple set of cut plates. The parts have been designed with interlocking systems to facilitate their positioning during tacking. Assembly is faster, squaring is easier, and the elements remain correctly held before welding.

What does the kit contain?

  • All body parts of the firebox in Corten steel, laser-cut and interlocking
  • The front door with its hinge, ready to weld
  • The multifunctional ash pan (draft, ash collection, ignition)
  • Stainless steel controls (door handle, draft control)
  • The cooking grate in two 40 cm elements
  • The 5 mm stainless steel carrying handle

The kit does not include

  • Welds.
  • Finishing or patination.
  • Welding consumables.
  • Paint (unnecessary on Corten).

Technical specifications

  • Material: 3 and 5 mm Corten steel

  • Total height: 68 cm
  • Depth: 35 cm
  • Width at base: 34 cm
  • Firebox section: 130 × 130 mm

Why choose Corten steel?

Corten is particularly suitable for outdoor cooking equipment. It naturally develops a protective patina that limits corrosion while giving the product an authentic look. Its excellent durability makes it a material perfectly suited for a rocket stove intended to remain outdoors.

Corten, a particularity to know

Corten steel is not painted: it naturally develops a protective patina when exposed to air and humidity. This characteristic also applies to the kit version, but it has a consequence for welding: Corten requires a slightly different setting than conventional steel (speed, intensity), which should be anticipated if you have never welded this type of steel.

A design derived from field experience

Before being offered as a kit, the Magma was designed, manufactured, and tested in our workshop. It is not just a simple laser cutting project: it is a genuine cooking product developed by the Ülfi teams and then adapted into a kit version for metal fabrication enthusiasts.

Made in our workshop

All parts of the Magma kit are cut on our laser machines in our workshop in Romilly-sur-Seine (Aube). They are then checked before shipping to ensure precise assembly and consistent quality.

Frequently asked questions

Are the parts already interlocked?
Yes, laser interlocking ensures correct positioning before tacking – you don't have to align the parts by hand.

What welding machine is needed?
A MIG/MAG or TIG machine capable of welding 3 to 5 mm Corten steel is suitable.

I prefer the pre-assembled version, where can I find it?
The assembled and ready-to-use version is available directly from Ülfi.

The Magma is not just a simple sheet metal kit. It is a genuine Ülfi product that we offer you to manufacture yourself.
