A presence that fills the space

Two meters tall, 1.43 m wingspan from shoulder to shoulder, with an open jaw and a fist on its chest. The XXL Gorilla is crafted to be seen from afar: a garden, an entrance hall, a showroom, a restaurant terrace. Each facet catches the light differently depending on the time of day and the angle.

3D visuals from the manufacturing model — rendering non-contractual.

95 parts. One color per part. One gorilla.

The DXF file contains each part separately, designed for 1.5 mm steel sheet, numbered and marked for engraving. In this view, each color represents a distinct part — exactly what the file allows you to cut. Even the dentition: the fangs and teeth of each jaw are a separate folded part that fits into the open mouth.

XXL 2m Gorilla — the 95 parts of the DXF file, one color per part

95 parts to laser cut · 201 folds according to the indicated angles · 302 welds to form the final sculpture · designed for 1.5 mm steel sheet.

Designed for manual folding

Each fold line is provided in the file as discontinuous micro-laser cuts, separated by small material bridges. The fold is guided and facilitated: you bend it to its angle by hand, using simple tools (pliers, mallet, locking pliers depending on the areas), and you control the final angle. On the large fold lines of the body, the cuts are longer so there is less steel to fold.

This system stems from our real-world workshop tests and has evolved over several prototypes to reduce complex folds and facilitate assembly.

01

Dotted fold lines

The 201 folds are integrated into the file and are cut at the same time as the parts. No press brake, no marking out: the line is already there, in the right place.

02

31 overlapping joints

On hidden areas, one part features a small flap upon which the adjacent part rests. It self-aligns before tack welding, and the joint remains invisible once the sculpture is closed.

03

10 positioning tabs

Between the head and the body, tabs designed into the file slot into notches in the adjacent part. The position is fixed before welding: you weld correctly on the first attempt.

What the download contains

A ready-to-use cutting file, and the entire method to go from flat sheet metal to a 2-meter gorilla.

File 1

DXF File

The 95 parts laid flat, ready to be imported into your laser cutting software (or handed to a contractor). Fold lines, overlaps, tabs, and numbering included.

Folder 2

Folding folder

One sheet per part: direction of each fold (towards you or away) and its angle, suggested folding order starting from the largest facet, identification of welds with adjacent parts, overlaps, and tabs.

Folder 3

Assembly guide

Numbered views from all angles (sides, top...) and part-by-part assembly order. Each part finds its exact position, and areas using our positioning systems are identified so you can weld correctly on the first attempt.

Don't have laser cutting? The XXL Gorilla is also available as a steel kit, with parts already cut — see below.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a press brake?

No. The fold lines are laser-prepared to be folded by hand, using simple tools (pliers, mallet, locking pliers).

Do I need to know how to weld?

Yes. The parts are assembled by tacking and then welding (MIG/MAG or TIG). This is a project for a DIYer already comfortable with sheet metal and welding, not a beginner project.

Do I need laser cutting to use this file?

Yes, or a laser cutting contractor. The DXF file imports directly into your cutting software. Without a laser, the steel kit provides you with the parts already cut.

Are the cut parts included with the file?

No, you only receive the DXF file and the PDF folders. The cut parts are sold separately in the steel kit.

Are the folding and assembly folders provided?

Yes, both are included with the file: a piece-by-piece folding folder and an assembly guide with numbered views.

Can I manufacture and sell multiple copies from this file?

Yes, the serial production license allows you to manufacture and sell as many XXL Gorillas as you want. However, you may not resell or redistribute the DXF file or the PDF folders.

A simple license

You can manufacture and sell as many XXL Gorillas as you want using this file. You may never resell, share, or redistribute the provided DXF file or PDF folders.
